Scientific papers
Scientific Articles
Original work that advances theoretical and empirical knowledge on retail and retail management.
This section receives original scientific articles that seek to describe, explain or predict phenomena in retail and its business environment. They may take an economic or behavioral approach, provided they present a rigorous analysis of relevant theory and the existing literature and highlight their contribution to the field of management.
Research using modern sampling procedures and statistical analysis, or an experimental design, with strong theoretical and empirical contributions.
Work that tests, broadens or builds strong theoretical frameworks, with relevance to business management theory and practice.
Systematic, integrative or bibliometric review, or meta-analysis, with explicit method (databases, search strategy, inclusion and exclusion criteria), critical synthesis, identification of gaps and a research agenda.
An empirical study that addresses a retail management problem, with explicit method and verifiable results.
Not for this section: technological articles (solution and innovation) and experience reports (professional practice) must be submitted to their own sections. Work already published or under review elsewhere is not accepted.
- Length: 6,000 to 8,000 words, excluding title, abstract, references, tables and figures.
- Opening elements: title of up to 15 words, structured abstract of 150 to 250 words and 3 to 5 keywords, in the three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish).
- Method: described in enough detail for the study to be replicated; empirical work must justify its sample and analysis procedures, and literature reviews must describe the search and selection protocol.
- File: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) of up to 2 MB, in the official RMR template, anonymous, with citations and references in APA 7th edition.
- Registration: all authors with ORCID, affiliation, city, state and country in OJS.
- Desk review by the editors, without author identification: scope, methodological adequacy and compliance with the guidelines (response within 30 days).
- Double-blind peer review by at least two external and independent reviewers.
- Similarity check (Crossref Similarity Check): at most 15% overall (20% for literature reviews) and less than 3% from any single source.
- Declaration of conflicts of interest, author contributions (CRediT) and funding sources.
- Declaration of AI tool use, where applicable, and of data availability; personal data of consumers must comply with the LGPD.
- Publication in diamond open access, with no author fees, under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license.

Technological Articles
Technological Articles and Experience Reports
Applied work with a professional emphasis on solving real retail management problems, with methodological rigor.
This section receives technical production work aimed at solving a practical problem or seizing an improvement opportunity in a real professional context, without giving up scientific rigor. The value of the work lies in the solution and its transferability to other organizations, not only in the knowledge generated about it.
Development and validation of a product, system, algorithm or process applied to retail, with an evaluation of results. It accepts participatory or action-based approaches and the ex post facto systematization of solutions already implemented. Statistical significance is not required. E.g., dynamic pricing, a replenishment process, a store performance dashboard.
An analytical description of a real intervention, project or process in a retail organization, led by the author, linking practice, theory and lessons learned. The theoretical framework is brief and serves to compare what theory predicted with what actually happened.
Not for this section: scientific articles (empirical, theoretical and applied studies) and literature reviews must be submitted to the Scientific Articles section. Work already published or under review elsewhere is not accepted.
- Length: technological article, 5,000 to 7,000 words; experience report, 3,500 to 6,000 words, excluding title, abstract, references, tables and figures.
- Structure (CIMO protocol): Introduction; Theoretical framework; Method of the technical production; Project context; Intervention and mechanisms; Results and analysis; Final remarks; References. Context, Intervention, Mechanisms and Outcomes must be clear.
- Presentation of the solution: describe the product or intervention concretely — what it is, how it works and why it solves the problem. This is the most closely assessed part and the one that fails most often.
- Method: anchored, where applicable, in action research, Design Science Research or applied case study. Results must be objective rather than generic, including the situational factors that affected them.
- Opening elements: title of up to 15 words, structured abstract of 150 to 250 words and 3 to 5 keywords, in the three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish).
- File: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) of up to 2 MB, in the official RMR template, anonymous, with citations and references in APA 7th edition; authors with ORCID and full affiliation in OJS.
- Desk review by the editors, without author identification: scope, clarity of the problem, concrete presentation of the solution and CIMO structure (response within 30 days).
- Double-blind peer review by at least two external and independent reviewers, who may include professionals with recognized expertise in the topic.
- Criteria: managerial relevance, rigor of the method, quality of the solution and results, and transferability of the intervention.
- Similarity check (Crossref Similarity Check): at most 15% overall and less than 3% from any single source.
- Organization’s authorization: declare that the organization involved authorized the disclosure of the data and information presented, safeguarding anything confidential or strategic. Personal data of consumers must comply with the LGPD.
- Conflicts of interest: declare ties to the organization, to suppliers of the solution and to sponsors, especially when the author took part in the intervention.
- Declaration of author contributions (CRediT), of AI tool use, where applicable, and of data availability.
- Publication in diamond open access, with no author fees, under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
